Canonbridge LLC

We assure respectful consideration and a timely response
as long as guidelines are followed.

We are swamped this year, and happily so.
However, this means we have had to institute
a moratorium on unsolicited/blind queries from 15 May to 30 November.
We will begin accepting unsolicited queries again on 1 December.
Thanks for giving us this time to catch up.

Our four imprints were created with a particular remit to print quality books on a number of subjects, fiction and nonfiction.  The goal of all of them is to develop a list of titles of unique and interesting literary merit that are relevant to lives today and in the future, provide different perspectives on the past, and encourage readers to think in ways they might not otherwise.

All imprints accept unsolicited submissions. However, authors are asked to check the guidelines prior to making their submission to ensure that all criteria are met. A query letter in advance via email or regular post is required. We specifically request unagented manuscripts.

If you do not know how to write a query letter, or are unsure, we suggest you go to your favourite search engine, type in "How to write a query letter", and follow the general advice.  You'll notice there are plenty of authors, agents and publishers willing to share that information..

Direct enquiries to Maggie Stewart-Grant, Senior Editor, at the email address listed below.  Enquiries will be routed to the appropriate person from her office.  Please put "Manuscript Enquiry" in the subject line. Do not send attachments. Unsolicited emails with attachments will be deleted unopened.

General Guidelines

We encourage the use of "beta readers".  Find 3-6 people who will read your manuscript and critique honestly.  Avoid "yes" men.  Join a local writers group or an online writing community.

Please do not submit work written in what is clearly a thesaurus-abused style. While at least one of the editors at Canonbridge will understand every single word, that same editor will also know whether the author's vocabulary is really that strong or it's smoke-and-mirrors.

Please. Query first. We cannot put enough emphasis on this. We will not consider any manuscript unless we have first received a query. We won't open unsolicited emails with attachments. Unsolicted emails with attachments will be deleted.

Wait for us to reply. This could take 30-60 days. If no response has been received in that time, please email us.   A faster, clearer response in writing is better than a random phone call at an inopportune time.

If the query is of interest, we will request a synopsis and the first three chapters to be sent via electronic file.  Please limit the synopsis; we prefer 5 pages or less.

If we request your manuscript:

  *  You will be asked to send via electronic file.
  *  Include a cover letter and your preferred email address for response.
  *  With nonfiction, include your CV (qualifications for writing your work).
  *  Send your file as a Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works or WordPerfect document.  Do not send a PDF file.
  *  Double-space your manuscript.
  *  All other documents - i.e., synopsis, cover letter, etc. - are single-spaced.
  *  Always use proper book manuscript format:
1¼ inch margins top, bottom, left and right,
Double-spaced lines with left-justified 12-point font - courier, times or arial only
  *  First sentence paragraph indents are 5 spaces (4 empty then letter.) Number every page except first/only pages.
  *  Proofread carefully using a dictionary, thesaurus and stylebook.
  *  Always keep a hard copy and two disk copies of everything you write.
  *  Keep accurate records of all submissions.
